GOVERNANCE

What Do Governors Do?

Governors have a strategic role in guiding and supporting the school’s work and challenging further improvement, with the following key roles:

  • Ensuring that the school vision, ethos and strategy are clearly defined.
  • Ensuring that the Headteacher performs his/her responsibilities for the educational performance of the school.
  • Ensuring the proper and effective use of the schools budget.

There are three committees that meet once every half term:

  1. Teaching and Learning; Andrew Wealls (Chair), Suzanne Cairns, Coreen Sears, Nnamdi Udezue, Catherine Buchanan
  2. Ethos and Pupil Wellbeing; Gordana Chapman (Chair), Father Dan Henderson (Ex-officio),  Ed Lawrence,
  3. Resources (Finance, Pay, Personnel, Premises); Jill Fairbrother (Chair Finance), Matt Greenall, Oliver Mudge, Lesley Hurst

Some Governors also sit on Panels for:

Head Teacher Appraisal

Admissions. As a church school, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority which involves setting admissions arrangements for the school and agreeing admissions applications.

There are also Governors with special responsibility including Safeguarding with Child Protection, Health and Safety, Pupil Performance (Data Analysis), Safer Recruitment and SEN with Equalities and Training.

There is a high priority for Governors and the Diocese to attend training sessions organised by Brighton & Hove Local Authority to ensure they are able to carry out their role effectively.

There is an expectation for all governors to visit the school during the year to become familiar with school improvement priorities e.g. follow up staff presentations on curriculum development, equality, behaviour and learning. Governors also place a high priority on communicating with the school community and attend parent/teacher evenings and other school events, including the annual summer fair.

The Full Governing Body meets at least once every half term and sometimes extra meetings are necessary. These meetings are where we discuss school direction, planning and strategy. Full Governing Body meetings for the 2016/1)7 academic year will be held at 7pm on the following dates:

  • Monday 12th March 2018

  • Tuesday 8th May 2018

  • Wednesday 4th July 2018

Minutes of previous meetings can be found below. The Constitution of Governing Bodies in Maintained Schools (August 2015) requires governing bodies to publish individual governors' attendance at meetings in the last year. For ease of reference we have provided this by giving details of and those who were not in attendance at each meeting:
